Who is Your Neighbor?

We have had many questions during this time since March of Covid-19 and the Pandemic if the clinic in Cayambe has seen Covid-19 patients. The answer is YES! Currently to-date, 53 suspected Covid cases have been seen and treated in the clinic. All have recovered. Here is a testimony from one of those patients, he is 28 years old:

I visited the Emanuel Medical Center at a recommendation of some close friends, and requested home care from the physical therapy service which was coordinated to perform daily respiratory therapy to help me in my recovery from COVID19 and thus improve my breathing. Currently, I am improving well and continue with therapy sessions at home; I am very grateful for the care that the Emanuel Medical Center gives me in my recovery.

In the midst of all that was happening during this time, the project in Cayambe continued serving outside it’s walls to organizations, churches and government entities whose resources were severely compromised. Here are the recipients of help from the project during the Pandemic:

In June, July and August, 901 patients were seen and evaluated at the clinic

A new program was developed because patients, especially older patients are afraid to come to a medical facility, so there is the option now to receive Home Health Care. This new program has served 36 patients so far who likely would not have sought treatment otherwise.

In August, a medical caravan took place, serving 6 communities in the mountains surrounding Cayambe, areas that are very difficult to reach, but with many needs. During that caravan, 95 patients were seen and treated, with 27 urgent cases having follow up care after the caravan.

As we hear many stories of heroes during this time of pandemic, especially first-responders and health care workers, we relate to this as the project and clinic in Cayambe have answered the call to serve in the midst of fear and the unknown, to care for their neighbor, those underserved and without access to food, clothing and medical care.

The Santiago Partnership is proud to serve alongside these heroes that sacrifice every day to serve the needs of their neighbors.
