God is Good
Reflections from the National Annual Meeting of the Evangelical Covenant Church of Ecuador.
Earlier this month, Joel made a quick three‑day trip to Ecuador after being invited to attend the National Annual Meeting of the Evangelical Covenant Church of Ecuador. He went as a representative of the Santiago Partnership and as one of the global partners who walk alongside the church and FACE. What unfolded over those three days was a beautiful reminder of God’s faithfulness and the strength of the Covenant family in Ecuador.
A Gathering of the Global Church
The meeting brought together a wonderful mix of brothers and sisters in Christ—national leaders from across Ecuador, the National Church President of Argentina, missionaries from Sweden, and representatives from various ministries. It was a vivid picture of the global church united in purpose.
Much of the time was spent discussing the business of the church. Pastor Christian Sani was elected to another two‑year term as president, an encouraging sign for the ongoing partnership between Santiago Partnership and FACE. New leaders were also elected to serve on boards and councils that help shepherd the church throughout the year. We ask for continued prayers for these leaders as they step into their roles.
The gathering also celebrated seminary graduates, witnessed the ordination of two pastors, and took time to honor and mourn those who had passed away in the last year. It was a full expression of the life of the church—joy, grief, growth, and hope all woven together.
A Personal Homecoming
On a personal level, the trip was deeply meaningful. Joel was able to reconnect with brothers and sisters in Christ who have become dear friends over the years. One thing stood out above all: the church remains the same faithful community it has always been. The same people continue to come from all over the country, committed to their faith and to one another. It truly feels like a family of believers walking this journey together.
Unity, Efficiency, and Encouragement
The annual meeting itself went incredibly smoothly—so smoothly, in fact, that it finished early. There was a strong sense of unity even amid difficult decisions, and the leadership facilitated the gathering with grace and efficiency.
FACE staff were present and serving in many different ways. Santiago, Carlita, and Maria (our Ecuadorian Staff) all played important roles throughout the event, working behind the scenes to support others. Dr. Katherine from our clinic even attended to see patients as needed. Their dedication was a powerful reminder of the heart of this ministry.
Joel returned home feeling encouraged—encouraged for the future of the church, for FACE, and for the Santiago Partnership’s role in what God is doing in Ecuador. It was a short trip, but a meaningful one, and a reminder that “The Lord is good, a refuge in times of trouble. He cares for those who trust in Him.” — Nahum 1:7
