Strengthening Nutrition at Santiago Children’s Home
Partnerships are at the heart of what makes our work in Ecuador so impactful. In May, the SOJAE Foundation and Santiago Children’s Home began a collaboration that has already brought real, tangible change to the community—strengthening nutrition, improving food quality, supporting healthier routines, and building sustainability through equipment, guidance, and local organic production. This is just one example of how our partners in Ecuador and around the world come together to create lasting transformation. Their commitment, expertise, and shared vision multiply the impact far beyond what any one organization could accomplish alone.
Since then, we’ve seen steady, hopeful progress. New kitchen equipment, including a refrigerator, freezer, oven, and essential utensils, has made daily meal preparation safer and more efficient. SOJAE’s nutrition team worked alongside our staff to create balanced menus that truly meet our kids' needs. We are grateful for their financial support, ensuring meals continue without interruption.
One of the most meaningful steps forward has been creating our organic garden. With donated seedlings and an irrigation system, this space is now producing fresh ingredients while teaching responsibility, care for the earth, and long‑term sustainability. Today, 40 children and staff receive a nutritious lunch every day, and the difference is notable.
There is still more ahead. We’re strengthening our nutritional monitoring system, expanding the garden to diversify meals, and preparing educational materials to help families and communities learn about healthy eating.
Together we are planting seeds that will last — building a future that is healthier, more sustainable, and full of hope for everyone at Santiago Children’s Home. One meal, one seedling, one healthy habit at a time.
SOJAE is a non-profit organization based in Ecuador that has strong ties to Japanese partners and initiatives.
