Goshen College in Goshen, Indiana has a study abroad program (STEM) with 5 different countries, Ecuador being one of them. Students spend time abroad learning another language and culture and living with host families. Part of their time abroad consists of serving with a local ministry.
Goshen College partners with the Santiago Partnership to receive student volunteers during their time abroad. In June, three volunteers, Julia, Claire, and Chinetta, joined our staff and will serve alongside them through July 24.
Partners from the college came to visit and see how the students were doing within our ministry. We were able to share about our programs in more detail. “The volunteers have fit in very quickly and are using their gifts and abilities to benefit the ministry,” commented Esther Moreira, International Relations Coordinator.
Julia and Claire both have a heart for kids. They are serving at the Santiago Children’s Home, helping the caregivers prepare food, care for the children, and assist with English lessons. They have also spent time going to Forever Flowers with some of the teens to help them learn some new activities. Chinetta has a heart for medicine and desired to serve at the Santiago Medical Center to learn from our physicians about various health topics. She hopes to become a physician herself one day.
