How did you come to be part of the FACE Foundation team?
I firmly believe that God is in control of our lives, and it was He who guided my path to FACE. Before joining the Foundation, I worked for the government for five years, during which time I was away from Cayambe. One day, I received a call requesting a dentist for a newly opened medical center that, providentially, was near my home.
Without much hesitation, I submitted my application, feeling in my heart that it was time to return and be with my family again. Thank God, and after an interview, I was accepted.
This news marked a turning point in my life because I understood that, through my profession, God was giving me the opportunity to serve and help the people of my local community, bringing not only healthcare but also love and hope.
What was it like growing up with your father living in Quito during the week?
Growing up with my father living in Quito during the week wasn't easy, as his absence was felt every day. However, that situation taught me to deeply value every moment with my family and to understand the sacrifice he made for our well-being.
Over time, I came to understand that his efforts were a form of love and responsibility, as he worked far away to provide us with better opportunities. This experience strengthened my sense of commitment and helped me develop independence from a young age.
From a Christian perspective, I also understood that God sustains the family even from a distance and that every sacrifice has a purpose. Today, I value family unity more and have a greater awareness of the importance of responsibility, effort, and love as fundamental pillars in life.
What motivated you to continue your studies with such determination?
Since I was little, I have always dreamed of pursuing a career that would allow me to be independent, self-reliant, and supportive of my family. At that time, I wanted to be a teacher; however, as I chose a university degree, I decided to pursue dentistry at a public university.
The path wasn't easy; it required effort, sacrifice, and a lot of dedication. Despite the difficulties, every step was worth it. Today, I feel deeply happy and proud of my profession, as it gives me the opportunity to help people regain their smiles, even amidst the adversities they may be facing.
What is a patient interaction you will never forget?
One patient interaction I will never forget was with a person who arrived in great pain, but also with sadness and fear. Beyond the dental care she needed, I could see she needed to be heard and treated with kindness. During the consultation, I tried to offer her not only treatment but also words of encouragement and reassurance.
In the end, her expression had completely changed, not only because of the physical relief but also because she felt supported. That moment marked my life, because I understood that my profession is not just about healing teeth, but about touching hearts. I firmly believe that God allowed me to be an instrument of His love at that moment, reminding me that each patient is an opportunity to serve with empathy, faith, and dedication
What legacy do you hope to leave for your nephew?
The legacy I hope to leave my nephew is not only material, but primarily one of values and a life example. I would like him to see in me someone who fights for their dreams, is responsible and persevering, and acts with love toward others.
I want to convey to him the importance of trusting in God at every stage of his life and teach him that, with faith, effort, and humility, he can overcome difficulties. I also want him to learn to value family, to be grateful, and to serve others with a sincere heart.
More than words, I hope my life will be a testament that inspires him to be a good person, to make the right decisions, and to always walk with firm principles, knowing that he is never alone because God always guides his steps.
