Aunt, Sister, Daughter: Roles That Define A Heart

Dr. Lucy Maldonado has been our dentist since the day we opened the doors of the Medical Clinic. She leads our teams with integrity, determination, and care. Here is her story, in her own words.

My name is Lucy Jakeline Maldonado Borja. I was born in the canton of Cayambe on September 30, 1980, and I grew up in a family that has always supported me. Since I was a child, my life has been full of important moments that have shaped the person I am today.

I am the third of four siblings. When we were young, we lived with our mother because my father worked an hour and a half away from Cayambe, which made it difficult for him to come home every day. For this reason, he had to live in Quito, and we could only see him on weekends. Over time, we came to understand that to have the necessary comforts, we had to adapt to that situation.

I completed my primary and secondary education in the same place where I lived. However, for my bachelor’s degree, I had to leave Cayambe and move to Quito. At that time, I began to spend more time with my father because I started living with him. On weekends, we used to return together to Cayambe to visit our family.

I chose to study dentistry, a profession I truly enjoy because it allows me to help people and improve their well-being. Being a dentist is a very important part of my life, as it represents my personal and professional growth.

My two older siblings have each followed their own paths, but we have always remained united as a family. I am the only one among my siblings who was able to complete my studies; it took great effort, dedication, and a strong desire to improve myself. This achievement fills me with pride because it represents all the hard work, sacrifice, and perseverance I put into reaching my goals.

One of the most special and meaningful moments in my life was when my younger sister had her son. The arrival of my nephew Sebastián filled our hearts with immense joy, and from the very first moment, he held a very special place in my life. To me, he is much more than a nephew: he is my life, my joy, and one of the greatest blessings God has placed in my path.

His presence has filled my heart with love and tenderness, and every day he motivates me to be a better person. He represents hope, joy, and the love that strengthens our family. Without a doubt, his arrival has been one of the most beautiful gifts God has given us.

Throughout my life, I have come to understand that family is one of the greatest treasures we have. My parents, my sister, and my nephew have been with me at every stage, supporting me in both good times and difficult ones. Especially my sister, who has been a fundamental pillar in my life. She was by my side when I needed her most, offering her support, her companionship, and her strength so that I would not fall apart.
